The Assassins had been playing full-time for
three years when this mean photo was taken. The band had made a name
for itself up and down the East Coast and had shortened the name from
"Jimmy Thackery and the Assassins." The band shown cut one record,
the well-received Cut Me
Loose, (.aiff sound download; 560K) which
propelled the band to some small-scale national attention, and a 1989
Washington Area Music Association (WAMA) "Wammie" award for best blues artist/group. Never mind that the record was pretty much straight ahead rock'n'roll; we'll take it. Personnel (from left) are: Brian Alpert (drums), Jimmy Thackery (lead guitar, vocals), Wade Matthews (bass, vocals), Tommy Lepson (lead vocals, guitar, keyboard), Bruce Harrison (keyboards, vocals) and Alex Holland (saxophones, vocals).
Would you want your daughter going out with any of these guys? |
