'Cut Me Loose' artwork
The Assassins "Cut Me Loose"

Though I appeared on a number of recordings (some with my own groups, some as a hired gun) none of these projects approached the high quality and standards on display in the writing, performing, recording and mixing of this 1989 CD.

All modesty aside (!), Cut Me Loose was well-reviewed, and stands up both in impact and quality to many similar nationally released and promoted efforts.

The Assassins performed extensively on the East Coast from 1986—1991, and were given the look-see from a number of major record labels. Ultimately, the word we heard indicated the music passed muster, but those wacky A&R marketing gurus could never quite figure out where this bunch of grizzled veterans would fit on the mass market charts.

Such is life, eh?

By the way, the campy original art was created by H.R. Cornelison.
